Two boys in the stands of a football stadium.

Overall time

45 minutes

Theme

Becoming a critical consumer

Introduction

This activity explores how easy it can be to get ‘carried away’ spending money, using the example of being a fan of a sporting team. This activity helps children to think carefully about what can influence their spending, how much money it would cost to ‘have everything’ and why we should think carefully about how we use money. This activity would follow on well from the ‘A Sporting Chance’ activity.

This activity is part of our range of Money Heroes resources for children with special educational needs.

These resources have been adapted to be flexible for use in a range of settings and with children of varying abilities or special educational needs. Rather than using age groups or key stages, each activity has been given a difficulty level, based on children’s financial knowledge, skills and understanding. Practitioners should choose activities based on the financial capability level of the children they are working with.

This is an advanced/expert level activity – this level suits children who have a good level of financial education understanding and are ready to start developing their skills and knowledge further.
